If only there was a book I could give them!

I bet you know someone who turns on the computer, sends a few emails, writes something in WORD while still using page returns?  They call you quite often although that really hate bothering you but the computer is just irritating to them.  They wish they knew more but haven’t quite found the right book.  They’ve tried a few.

Well then, consider the Computer Appliance Learning Maintenance Manual [More INFO or ORDER].  What makes it different? First off, it is an unassuming manual that gets right to the point.  For example, ever given the direction start XYZ to be met with a blank stare? So you respond, “click on this here“.  They brighten up only to have their face fall as they ask, do I use the left button or right one?“  You say, “the left one“.  They start again and left click once.  “Oh, it’s a desktop icon so you have to double click.“  Right! So on page I-1 of the BOOK guess what is immediately covered … you bet, Left-Clicking, Right-Clicking, Double-Left-Clicking and it doesn’t stop there.  There is even an image of the mouse button.  And, all the way through the book every single direction has an associated image of not only what mouse button to use and how to use it but an image of exactly what they will be clicking on the computer screen.  NO GUESS WORK!

It’s main focus is guiding all but the greenest computer user on how to set up robust security for their computer but it contains much more than that.  It is newbie approved because frustrated computer users guided its creation.  Whenever a paragraph was read and the look said, WHAT?, that paragraph was re-written until the AH-HA! happened.  And, because of this feed-back several other directives were incorporated into the BOOK like;

  • Whenever the BOOK gives an instruction to do something, the very next paragraph is giving the instruction on how to do it.
  • Referring to other pages is all but eliminated,  instructions are repeated and repetition is good for the memory.
  • All techno terms are explained and language is kept to the point.

All that said, the baseline is that once your friend using the book you’ll likely find they are calling you less, and maybe, sooner than later you’ll be exchanging computer tips with each other.  Or, maybe, you’ll be actually wishing they were calling more often.
